Okay, it’s time to reveal the new cookbook I’ve been raving about. Just so you know, I’m usually not a big cookbook person. I still buy them from time to time but I’m usually disappointed when the touted quick and easy recipes are really more involved and time-consuming.

This is one of the reasons I love SOS! The Six O’Clock Scramble to the Rescue: Earth-Friendly, Kid-Pleasing Dinners for Busy Families Cookbook. Many of the meals are Scramble Express meaning they can be made in 30 minutes or less. And Aviva Goldfarb, the author and busy mom, denotes the meals that can be made ahead of time or frozen.

For some reason, I find the meals in SOS especially appealing. I’ve already tried the Ravioli, Spinach with Sun Dried Tomatoes and the Crispy Parmesan-Panko Crusted Chicken Cutlets. I can’t wait to make the Orzo Salad with Peas and Feta Cheese and the Mango and Black Bean Salad to use as sides for some upcoming BBQs.

I also love the structure of the book. Golfarb, who runs The Scramble Meal Planning System, provides weekly menu plans and recipes based on what’s in season. The beginning of the book contains a seasonal fruit and veggie guide and other helpful suggestions like how to stock your pantry (wasn’t I just talking about this?).

I also really, really, really appreciate having the suggested sides which includes easy and nutritious salad and veggie ideas. Each section of the cookbook has tips for families including school lunch ideas, easy composting for families, best dishes for school potlucks and much more.

The only thing that’s missing from this cookbook are pictures but I can live without that. It really is an amazing resource for busy families. It’s a must-have book for every family’s kitchen!

Because the nice folks at the Six O’Clock Scramble sent me two books, I’m going to give one away for free! Here’s what you have to do to enter the cookbook giveaway:

1) Leave a comment saying why you need more quick and healthy meal ideas.

2) For another entry, sign up for Raise Healthy Eaters’ email updates or RSS Feed. If you already subscribe, tell at least one friend about Raise Healthy Eaters. Leave another comment saying what you did.

3) To increase your chances further, become a facebook fan. If you are already a fan (now called like), suggest some of your friends become fans. Leave another comment saying what you did.

4) And for a bonus entry, tweet, blog or share this post on Facebook. Again, let me know you did it by leaving another comment.

This giveaway will end next Friday the 4th at midnight. The winner will be picked at random.org. Good luck!

I work with families and often urge them to use family mealtimes as an arena for family resiliency, growth and fun! the largest obstacle that the report is the lack of child, time, and money efficient healthy meals. I’d love to utilize this book as a resource, thanks!

I would love more quick and easy recipes as my son has started getting involved with after school sports and our nights are becoming more and more hectic. Plus I think my hubby is getting bored with the same meals over and over!

I’m a teacher with three children (two are twins- 5 1/2). I love to plan and prepare healthy meals for my family, but lately my son loves to ask what’s for dinner and then proclaim, “But I don’t like that!” I obviously need some new ideas. :)

Now that my 1 year old eats what we eat we are really trying to eat more healthily, but I also don’t want to spend all night in the kitchen. This cookbook sounds like it would be perfect!

I need school lunch ideas! I really want to cut out processed snacks as much as possible. We eat locally and could use help with seasonal cooking.

Amy June 1, 2010 at 10:24 am

I am tired of eating the same things the same way.

Amy June 1, 2010 at 10:25 am

I sent a link to my GF because her son is very picky. (I am already subscribed via bloglines.)

I LOVE to cook and I LOVE to eat, but since becoming a mom nearly 2 years ago, I have found myself in a major cooking rut. This cookbook sounds like exactly what i need to jumpstart one of my greatest passions and feed my family nutritious and delicious meals all at the same time!

I don’t get off work until 515 and sometimes 530 then it’s usually 6 by the time I arrive home. This book would help me get something healthy on the table fast I bet.

I retweeted and became a fan on FB!

I’m crazy busy all day and love a home cooked meal. However, my “home cooked meals” end up being microwave mac and cheese or some cereal. I need this cookbook to help me get some fun foods on the table and fast so i can enjoy eating healthfully and then cooking as well.

Brooke June 3, 2010 at 8:12 am

I told my co worker about you who just had a new baby. She needs something quick to fix for herself and her hubby. I’ve been a subscriber for a while! Love this blog! keep up the great work!

Liz June 3, 2010 at 11:56 am

I’m a working mom, fed up with all the 39 min meal cookbooks that use processed foods to shorten prep time. This cookbook sounds perfect for me!

susan June 3, 2010 at 8:07 pm

I get so stressed out over dinner planning. What to make in a short amount of time that everyone will eat that is also healthy is enough to drive me ’round the bend! I love to cook, but not under those conditions. I too have been disappointed by the dozens of cookbooks I’ve bought thinking they were the magic solution, when only 2 or 3 recipes really work.
I follow on you facebook and just signed up for the emails. Thank you for your wonderful source of healthy recipes and tips. I really appreciate it!
