This is a great article. I also have a website devoted to helping parents teach their children to love healthy food http://smartparentprogram.blogspot.com/

Another tip is to stop feeding them foods that are high in sugar and fat. Studies with rats have found that sweet, high-fat foods reduce the desire for real foods. Rats who are used to junk food will rather go hungry than eat real food. Desserts should be a "sometimes" treat -- every week or two. at the most.

Fantastic article! Love the way you use cutting edge research in your articles to provide practical tips!

Building on your suggestion about making nutritious food fun, it is also good to have a playful attitude at mealtime. We try to make up funny - and sometimes weird - stories to get our twins' attention. Anything that can get their imagination working! Sometimes it is "eating salad like a giraffe", or "diesel food for a diesel engine". At other times, we play games or make up a story about what happened at work. Usually it involves their favorite characters - we start it somehow and then they build on it. It is so much fun and works very well in getting them to try new foods.

Thanks for your wonderful suggestions!

What an amazing series, Maryann. You did a fabulous job. I want to establish a link back to this series for my readers on my blog page as a reference. This is a very common issue in which families are asking for assistance. Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to participate!
